Reigning the top spot

With a few weeks’ rest for The Green Army Ladies, they once again packed their boots and gum shields, and made their way down south to play their first meeting of the season against Croesyceiliog Ladies.

With the pitch ready to play and the sun shining low, Nikki Weldon-Jones lead her almighty squad out onto the field, The Green Army were ready to defend their top of the league reign.

With a promising start, and a good steal from the Abergele’s scrum half, Gele applied the pressure from the blow of the whistle, and after one of the green army’s strong scrums, it was the hooker of the pack Beth Rose who stepped over the try line to obtain the first 5 Points.

But the Croesyceiliog Ladies were carrying fire in their bellies and shortly afterwards matched geles try. With neither side coverting the battle was on at 5-5.

With Abergele’s defence being tested, their normally steal wall was being hit hard, the home team touched down on the line and coverted to take the lead.

With Abergele needing to catch up, their fast feeted backs were making some great runs to break the home team defence, with great team support they were quick to add a second try to score sheet by Sophie Edwards, with Beth Rose converting.

With play set to go again, Winger Megan Speakman quickly seen her opportunity to again add more points to Gele’s scoresheet, touching the ball down on the line, bringing an end to the first half.

With the second half underway, the green army backs were being a nuisance to the home teams defence with Sophie to add to her previous try.

But the Home team were still ready to test the Green Army, with a further two tries as Gele’s defence was being put under pressure.  With no conversions from the home team this game was now battle to the end.

With 8 minutes left on the clock, Scrum Half Emily Mcmullin takes a blow to the ankle, with the game ending.

Both Teams played with passion for their clubs, and battled hard to the end.
