BENLLECH 23-17 ABERGELE

An early exit from the Bowl for Gele following an entertaining match away at Benllech. The visitors showed plenty of commitment but were let down by the penalty count, Benllech looked by far the sharper of the teams with the ball in hand and were well worth their place in the draw for the next round.

Gele played up the slope in the first half and took the game to the hosts, the handling left a lot to be desired at times and the penetration was also lacking. The forward battle was tight with both packs struggling to get good clean possession at the breakdown, although it was Benllech who showed the greater enterprise when they got the ball out to their backs. Benllech opened the scoring after 30 minutes with a well worked try in the right hand corner and added another just before half time in the opposite corner.

The second half saw Gele up the pace and although they pressured early on the final pass let them down. Benllech stretched their lead through a well taken penalty which spurred Gele into action a well finished try from Alex Murray a typical sniping try from a disrupted scrum by Gareth ‘Smudge’ Smith was followed by a barnstorming try by Simon Johnstone which was converted by Rich Medlicott.

Gele were back in the game but discipline again saw a converted penalty in front of the posts and a converted try saw Benllech hang on to go into the draw for the next round.

Next Saturday Gele are back in league action when they travel to Wrexham, kick off 2.30pm.
