"CMON PWLL" a 'DOWCH O NA NANT' Hywel's Preview of Saturday' s Plate and Div 1 matches.

Back to grass roots rugby with a bang this week following last Saturday's disappointing results at Principality and Parc Eirias.

What a feast of rugby to cheer us up this week end, dominated by the WRU Plate Quarter finals involving our leading clubs Nant and Pwllheli both drawn at home. The keenly contested league title race between these clubs will take a back seat on Saturday as they focus all their energies in getting through to the semis and one match away from the coveted appearance at the Principality on Finals Day to be held on Sunday1st May.

Nant will expect a large crowd at Pant Carw when they take on Cardiff based St Peters who ply their trade in Div 2 East Central. To avoid traffic congestion (and parking tickets!!) the club have laid on 'park and ride' service from Llanrwst football/bowling club car park and supporters are encouraged to use this service. League leaders Nant who beat much fancied and previously undefeated Rhydyfelin in the last round are in great form and will be all out to replicate their 2012 success in reaching the final. They narrowly failed to bring the trophy home losing out to Penallta who incidentally are still in the competition. To reach the semis they need to overcome St Peters whose league record reads P15 W11 L4, they are currently in 3rd position. They have reached the quarters with notable scalps beating Div 1 outfits Builth and Gowerton and have Welsh legend Mark Ring as their coach -so Nant can expect a tough contest and perhaps a 'box of tricks' from the influence of their maverick coach. Great match in prospect 2pm kick off 'Dowch o na Nant'.

Current Div 1 Champions Pwllheli welcome Abercarn to Bodegroes. Again a large crowd is expected and the club are encouraging car sharing , public transport etc to ease congestions- hot food and refreshments will be available -go early it promises to be a great day-2pm kick off.. Pwll have reached this stage of the competition the hard way having been drawn away in the last three rounds-winning them all on the road in South Wales- no mean feat -notable victory at Div 1 West pacesetters Llanelly Wanderers. The Lleyn boys have only slipped up once this season and lie in second position in Div 1 North 7 points adrift of fellow quarter finalists Nant with a game in hand. They come into this match with a comfortable high scoring victory last time out and will be buoyed by their strong vocal support on their home patch. Blocking their path to the semis are Div 2 East visitors Abercarn with a league record of P13 W9 L4 -5th in table. They are the second highest try scorers in their league. Their progress in the competition include home victories 47-19 against Llandudno and a 22-6 win against fellow league rivals Croesyceiliog in the last round. . Another tough test for the boys from Lleyn -'Cmon Pwll'

In Div 1 North we have some intriguing encounters which could shape the relegation positions.

First up at Dol Ddafydd where Bethesda welcome Caernarfon. The Cofis in third place have won three on the trot whilst Pesda (9th) remain inconsistent losing out at Llandudno last time out. The Cofis won 40-14 earlier in the season and on form should take the points.

COBRA second from bottom host 7th placed Mold. The Meifod boys won a crucial relegation battle at Abergele in their last match and will be keen to turn the tables on Mold who won 40-3 in corresponding fixture. The visitors have lost their last two league outings but may have enough power up front to take the spoils.

Bottom club Abergele make the short journey to Colwyn Bay (8th). This is a do or die game for Gele in their fight to stave off relegation whilst Bay also need the points to keep out of the danger zone. Bay won 27-12 last time and home advantage could come to play here.

Rhuthun just above the relegation positions host 5th placed Bro. Both teams have lost their last two matches although the Blues took high flying Caernarfon close in their last match. The Quarrymen won 29-3 last time, closer on Saturday, the home side could edge it.
