LLANGOLLEN 6-11 ABERGELE

Both teams showed new season rustiness early on, Llan’s big pack dominating the set piece while Gele tackled well and showed enterprise with the ball in hand.

The hosts took an early lead from a penalty and whilst Gele threatened the line the final pass didn’t quite make it. Llan dominated early on at the scrum but Gele harassed well at the break down and won a number of turn over balls to keep the hosts pinned in their own half, no further points were added in the first half. Another needless penalty early in the second half allowed Llan to extend their lead to 6-0. Gele stuck to their plan and rewarded with a try when Rich Medlicott broke the line and was dragged down close to the line in the corner, scrum half Owain Miller let the ball go quickly and it was spread wide to Chris Meyers who beat a couple of tackles to cross the line, the conversion drifted wide.

Gele started taking the game to Llan and slowly but surely the forwards started taking control at the scrum, great work at the breakdown and pin point kicking put Gele on the front foot, from the pressure Rich Medlicott kicked 2 penalties to take and then extend the lead and disciplined defence and strong first up tackling saw Gele take the first four points of the season.

Next Saturday, 9th September, Gele host Rhyl at Pentre Mawr with a 2.30pm kick off.
