Hywel's predictions.

We are now reaching the business end of the season with some clubs playing their final league games. The title chase continues with some great matches in prospect as the the top four teams go head to head on Saturday. The top two, leaders Nant and Pwllheli face tough encounters against Bala(4th) and Caernarfon(3rd) respectively. At the other end of the table the relegation issue could finally be settled if Rhuthun only needing a point from their home match against Mold to avoid the drop. If they fail to achieve this COBRA need a bonus win at Colwyn Bay to remain in the top flight. The texting airwaves will be buzzing more than usual on Saturday afternoon!!.

Elsewhere bottom club Abergele host Llandudno at Pentre Mawr. The visitors took Pwllheli very close last week should be too strong. Gele to their credit have battled hard all throughout and as they are already relegated will be looking to re group for next season. Tudno won 43-18 earlier in the season and will look for a repeat victory.

Bethesda, safe from relegation visit fellow 'chwarelwyr' Bro in their final game of the season. After a great start Bro have been very inconsistent and Pesda have also struggled to get any momentum this season. Bro snatched a 18-17 win at Dol Ddafydd in December but the visitors won on their last visit in the Cup comp. Close game but Pesda may edge it.

Last week it was a 'shoot out' in Meifod, this week it will be a 'showdown' at Brookfield Road when COBRA take on Colwyn Bay. Its a do or die match for the Montgomeryshire boys inasmuch that nothing less than a bonus point victory will do to have any chance of Div 1 survival. They beat fellow relegation candidates Rhuthun at Meifod last week and are in good heart. Bay who do not have the best home record suffered a very heavy 122-0 loss at leaders Nant last Saturday but have some notable victories during the season and are mathematically safe from relegation. It promises to be a good contest and perhaps too much of a hard ask for COBRA but on their day they are capable of getting the points and repeat the 31-13 win at Meifod earlier in the season.

Rhuthun in their final league match of the season need a point to ensure Div 1 survival host local rivals Mold. They lost out in a crucial match at Meifod last Saturday when COBRA took the points. They will look to put the issue beyond doubt on Saturday to maintain top flight rugby. Mold had a big win against struggling Abergele last time out and will be all out for victory against their old foes. The visitors won 17-5 earlier in the season but the under pressure home team will pull out all the stops in this most important game of the season to take the points. Should they fail to do so and the result at Colwyn Bay go against them it could leave Mold as the only Div 1 club in the East.

Leaders Nant face a very tricky trip to Maes Gwyniad to face fourth place Bala. To maintain their 3 point lead over Pwllheli ( who have a game in hand) they cannot afford any slip ups in this toe to toe battle to take the title. Bala have already booked their place in the Conwy Land Rover NW Cup final and will be keen to get a top three finish to cap what has been a good season. Nant come into the match on the back of a massive 122-0 victory against Colwyn Bay whilst Bala had a comfortable 32-8 victory away at Bethesda. Nant won 32-16 in the last encounter, could be closer this time as Bala will take the leaders all the way but the visitors overall power and pace should ensure victory.

Current champions Pwllheli welcome neighbours Caernarfon who lie in 3rd position. This is their third meeting this season with the host victorious in each game. However the Cofis cannot be underestimated as they are capable of beating any side on their day--they have the notable scalp of leaders Nant to prove it. The Lleyn boys were severely tested at Llandudno last Saturday but came away with a 27-20 bonus point win whilst the Cofis had a big 67-7 victory at home to Bro. These are very good sides which should provide the fans with a great game. Pwllheli may have the clinical edge to make the difference and maintain their title challenge,
