Hywel's Preview and Predictions Div 1 North Saturday 1st April 2017.

Following Nant's gallant performance in their WRU Plate semi final defeat it is back to a full league programme this Saturday.

The title chase and relegation battles continue to dominate with little room for any slip ups at this stage of the campaign.

First up is third placed Caernarfon's visit to Bala who are in 4th position. Six points separate the sides with the Maes Gwyniad outfit having a game in hand. The Cofis will want to retain their 3rd position and pipped their hosts 16-14 earlier in the season. Both teams are going well and are in excellent form, close call but Bala could reduce the gap.

Llandudno (6th) travel up the A 470 to Bro (5th). They are on equal points so on paper it could be very close. Tudno won 40-7 in corresponding match and took in form Bala close last time out. Bro will have to work hard to make home advantage count and take the spoils.

League leaders Nant following their disappointment in losing their WRU Plate semi final will be seeking to get back on track when they go to Meifod to take on struggling COBRA. Its a must win for both clubs albeit for different reasons and the Montgomeryshire side will give their all in their fight for Div 1 survival. Nant won 80-7 at Pant Carw and may prove too strong again.

Bethesda lying precariously in 9th position travel to 8th placed Colwyn Bay who are 4 points ahead of them in the table. Bay pipped the Quarrymen 19-13 last November and will be keen to repeat their success to secure their place in the top flight next season. Pesda are in the same boat and may have the firepower to return to Dol Ddafydd with the precious points on offer on Saturday.

Seventh placed Mold on the back of a welcome return to winning ways last Saturday in defeating Bro after a barren patch make the journey to Bodegroes to face current champions Pwllheli. The visitors forward power may trouble the champions but may not be enough to upset the form book--a home win.

Rhuthun (10th) strengthened by RGC 1404 permit player host bottom club Abergele. Although the home side have lost on their last two outings they gave very good account of themselves against strong opposition and should prove too strong for the valiant visitors.
