GELE U10'S V MOLD U10'S

A much improved performance this week from the Abergele under 10s although still a disappointing result. The under 9s didn’t have enough players to put their own age group out so stepped up to play at under 10s level for the first time and did themselves proud. Newcomers Harley Hodge and Harry Lewis did an excellent job at the breakdown and put in some good tackles as did Olivia Maddocks who played some nice passes out to keep the game flowing. Stand out performer for the 9s was George Clemence who tackled and hit rucks like a machine and really got stuck in to the opposition. The game started much better as Gele were much more alert from the start with this week’s brave heart winner Hayden Meyers leading from the front with a tackle that drove a Mold player well back into their own half. This seemed to spur the other players on as the defence held out well allowing Gele to get possession to start some attacks of their own. Good solid running from Lucy Batey, Will Hewitt and Archie Macbain drove Gele up the pitch allowing play to flow into the much improved Aidan Herndlhofer and the returning Summer Lloyd-Davies to use their pace. Try as they might Gele couldn’t break through a stubborn Mold defence and even though they got a couple on the score sheet Gele’s defence was impressive, player of the week Ffion Williams was all over the park running hard lines and tackling anything she could as were Harvey Meyers and Bailey Davies who teamed up nicely to get some momentum.

Halftime saw some changes with the likes of Enlli Hinks and Laura Openshaw coming on to show what they could do, demonstrating some good defence skills to keep the opposition at bay. With a few key players off to give everyone some game time it was left to Kian Williams and Hayley Hanyane to lead by example with some dynamic running and solid defending. The game was very much a defensive practice session but as the kids were told the score line wasn’t important but the development of their rucking and tackling skills were and all much improved from last week.
