Hywel's Preview and Predictions Div 1 North Saturday 4th Feb KO 2 30.

Its Week 15 (out of 22) in the league programme on Saturday.

In general the weather and conditions have been kind so far this season but there are clubs a match behind schedule and a couple 2 matches adrift. These catch up fixtures will add to the usual twists and turns in the tight title and relegation battles over the coming weeks. A below average success rate of 66% in my predictions last week, thanks to and well done to Bethesda and Colwyn Bay who upset my form book. Let see how I get on in this week's action packed and keenly contested matches.

First up is the basement clash when COBRA visit fellow strugglers Abergele where a win is vital for both sides. Gele narrowly lost out 26-23 at Meifod and will fancy their chances to chalk up their first league win of the season. The visitors who put up a good performance last time out against champions Pwllheli will battle hard but their away form may let them down.

Llandudno who lie 7th host 9th placed Bethesda. Tudno need to get back on track after three consecutive defeats whilst Pesda have won on their last two outings . The Quarrymen will be keen to avenge the 36-26 defeat a Dol Ddafydd and at their best they should take the spoils on Saturday.

What a great local derby in store at Bro when they welcome rivals Bala, With Bro 5th and Bala 4th this could be close as was the 17-15 result earlier in the season when Bro took the points. Bro were pipped at Colwyn Bay and Bala won a close match at Rhuthun last time out. Not easy to predict derby encounters with local pride at stake but the Bala boys may have the edge.

Third placed Caernarfon entertain improving Rhuthun who took Bala close last week. The Cofis come into this encounter on the back of an excellent win against Llandudno. They won corresponding match 25-10 and should have enough power and pace to bag the points.

An intriguing match at Chester Road when Mold take on league leaders Nant. The hosts slipped up at Bethesda last week ending their six match league successes but will pose a tough challenge for the leaders. Whilst it will be closer than the 83-7 defeat at Pant Carw Nant are on fire and should return home with the spoils.

Champions Pwllheli currently in second place 7 points adrift ( with a game in hand ) welcome Colwyn Bay. The visitors held on to beat Bro at home last week whilst Pwll battled to a bonus point win at COBRA. The Bodegroes side were comfortable 66-13 winners at Brookfield Road earlier in the campaign and on form they should take the points to maintain their title challenge.
