HYWEL'S PREDICTIONS

Another 50% success on last Saturday's predictions ( or as a friendly wah from Bala told me at Bethesda "I would not call it a success -more like a disaster !! )

Its enough to drive me to the drink - as the photo shows-reproduced by kind permission of Colin Rogers Welshpool.

Well done to Bro, Mold and Rhuthun who well and truly spoilt my card. But life goes on and here we are in Week 5 for another Saturday of exciting North Wales club rugby across our three divisions.

My Div 1predictions are as follows --

Third placed Bala welcome Caernarfon to Maes Gwyniad on the back of a bonus win at Bethesda last week. The Cofis lost out at home to improving Bro and will be keen to get back on track. When they last met in May we were treated to a 60 pointer spectacular with the Cofis edging the match 32-28. I will go for a home win this time.

Bro fresh from a great away win at Caernarfon last time out host Llandudno. Tudno are showing improved form over recent games and this could be some contest. The visitors won corresponding match last season 55-7 it will be closer this time, tough call but I will stick my neck out and go for a home win.

Llangefni who are in 6th place entertain bottom club Colwyn Bay at Cae Smyrna. The hosts have been guilty of a couple of slow starts in recent games and need to get out of the blocks quicker.Bay are badly in need of a confidence booster after some heavy defeats but I cannot on form see them getting a result on Saturday.

Bethesda who are next to bottom make the journey to Mold desperate to get that first win of the season .The hosts had an excellent win at Dolgellau last time out and are firing on all cylinders. Pesda came away with a 'smash and grab' 18-16 win last time but Mold are my pick for success this time round.

Dolgellau face a tough challenge when they travel to second place Nant who will be smarting from their first defeat of the season last week at rejuvenated Rhuthun. Dol went down at home to Mold and form suggests that Nant will bounce back into the title race with a home win.

Can Rhuthun cause another upset this week when they travel to Bodegroes to take on current champions Pwllheli who are now the only undefeated team in the league this season. Rhuthun will not be found wanting following their superb win last time out when they inflicted the first defeat of the season on Nant Conwy. Pwllheli are getting into gear and whilst I cannot see them repeating last season's 71-3 success a home win is on the cards.

In Div 2 Dinbych and Shotton Steel continue to set the pace followed by COBRA.They all have home games this Saturday -Dinbych entertain Wrexham -who scored 106 points in a home win against Abergele last time out -could be an interesting encounter. Second place Shotton host mid table Newtown and COBRA face Rhyl at Meifod on the back of a good win at Llangollen whilst the visitors lost out 69-6 at home to Shotton.

In Div 3 Pwllheli 2nds and Teirw Nant top the league with Holyhead in third place. Match of the day will be at Menai Bridge when Holyhead make journey down the A5 with all guns firing to maintain their excellent start to the season.
