Abergele ladies made their usual trip down south all in the name of rugby, to play Gorseinon Ladies. With their pitch being unplayable due to weather the fixture had been relocated to The Seven Sisters.
With the Green Army having exactly 15 and with their usual trusty 9 and 10 out of play, Lucy Edwards was to fill in at scrum half, with Samantha Robinson filling the 10 position.
With weather looking quite gloomy and wet the match kicked off at half 2, with the home team not having an experienced prop scrums were made uncontested.
From the blow of the whistle Abergele didn’t have their usual fire in their bellies, and with the kick of the ball the Green Army were in their 22, but responded with some strong tackles. With a scrum awarded to the home team, Gorseinon were soon putting some points on the board with their first try, with a missed conversion.
The Green Army heads were down, and with the team lacking their usual strong defensive line Gorseinon scored another try from a huge overlap. Back at it again after kick off, some beautiful tackles were being made by Rebecca Broadway and Chelsea Symonds- Roberts, but after the effort of our forwards pack, again the home team saw the gaps through Abergele’s weak line and continued to aim for the white line time and time again.
Abergele were sitting very uncomfortable for the majority of the game in their 22, with Gorseinon taking full advantage of their weak defensive line. With Beth Rose getting them out of danger with some of her heavy foot kicking, it seemed to spur Abergele on with some great forward phases with Nikki Weldon Jones and Emma Parry crashing the ball into the opposition, the home team were not liking Abergele’s brutal forward play. But with a knock on from Abergele the home team made a break for another try.
Abergele were lacking their normal attacking attitude and just couldn’t seem to get a good flow going, which Gorseinon took full advantage of to take the win.
