After a blistering opening, including a fine intercept try by Captain Josh Lloyd, Gele feel short at the final hurdle in a closely contested battle (as often is the case) against a youthful Bae Colwyn outfit. Gele's structure was evident from the get go, with patterns and plays being implemented that had been worked on over the weeks in training under the supervision of Head Coach Simon Hughes, Forward Coach Tom Hughes and Backs Coach Mike Batey. The aggression in defence was evident and often disrupted Bay's lively backline attacking threats. Big hits from the pack came thick and fast, notably Anthony Tilley knocking player's backwards as is often the case. The experience of Joe Laving back in the fold alongside stalwart Si Hughes, significantly aided with on field discussions; as ever Llion Mortimer and Chris Meyers were prominent in attacking and defensive lineouts reaping the benefits of Hooker Scott Jones' arrows. Although the result may not have gone in favour of the Swordsmen, there were plenty of positives to take away from today's fixture which will surely provide the group with plenty of confidence as we continue our rebuild and look forward to league fixtures come November.
