Tuesday Night Lights - A Wet 'n Wild Pant Y Carw

After a short lay off and an abundance of injury woes, the Swordsmen took the wet and windy Tuesday night drive up the A470 to Pant Y Carw, the home of the dogged and determined Clwb Rygbi Nant Conwy. As far as Tuesday nights go, the weather was pretty grim but that did not deter the travelling Gele support and impressive showing from the locals too, a fine turnout for local North Wales rugby.

The intent was obvious from both sides from the off with hefty collisions coming into play early doors. A low scoring first half, with some impressive rugby on display given the torrid conditions and swirling wind. Gele scores came through the boot of Owain Davies with a well struck penalty, followed by some hustling work at the back of a scrum on the Teirw 5m line which in turn lead to ever present Chris Meyers dotting down in the corner.

As the game edged on, Gele were going through patterns of play from the training paddock, which was pleasing, notably there was a stand our performance from Owain Davies who was a thorn in the Teirw side, stepping and brushing off would be defenders gaining superb yardage in the process.

A welcome sight was the new addition of Aaron Hoyle, after a lay off from the game the youngster certainly caught the eye with a solid display, not forgetting the players who came in on permit to alleviate the voids left by our injury list; a big thank you to Richie Williams, Simon Johnston and Connor White, the latter picking up an injury. Get well soon!

As expected, the youthful Teirw side kept banging on the door which paid off in time, scoring some breakaway tries in the process. The experienced bench was well used by Teirw, essentially changing the tide of the game in the end.

We look forward to a couple of weeks off now to regroup - we start our league campaign at home to Clwb Rygbi Bangor on the 13th November.

A shoddy match report by D Lawrence.
